Hollywood Remembers Jeanine Nix: A Life of Service and Song

Hollywood lost a dedicated community member with the passing of Jeanine "Nina" Nix on July 21, 2026, at the age of 91. Nix, a long-time Hollywood resident, dedicated her life to social work, music, and ministry, leaving a significant impact on countless families and individuals in South Florida.

Nix's commitment to helping others defined her professional life. She worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 40 years, serving children and families across various local institutions. Her career began at South Florida State Hospital, where she spent 16 years. She then transitioned to crisis intervention, dedicating six years to the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) with Broward County Mental Health. In 1994, Nix joined Henderson Behavioral Health, where she developed a child/family crisis intervention team (FIT) before returning to adult crisis work with their MCRT. She concluded her career training psychotherapists at Henderson's South Branch.

Beyond her social work, Nix was an accomplished singer. She sang baritone in the 'Fourth Dimension' quartet, which achieved significant recognition by winning the US Southeastern Regional Championship for Sweet Adelines. The quartet also competed in Hawaii, a trip Nix often cited as a favorite.

Her faith played a central role in her life. Nix was one of the first Ecclesial Lay Ministers commissioned by the Archdiocese of Miami in 1979, serving in the Catholic church for 33 years. She actively participated in the Healing Prayer ministry within the Charismatic Renewal, Chaminade Community of Faith. Under the pseudonym A. L. Istner (A Listener), she published a book titled 'The Holy Spirit Calling,' inspired by her spiritual experiences.

Nix's legacy includes a profound spirit of generosity. She requested that in lieu of flowers, individuals donate anonymously to those in need. She also advocated for organ donation and participation in research studies, having been a brain and organ donor herself, and an original participant in the Woman's Awareness Initiative since 1994. She often expressed her desire to be "all used up" when she passed, reflecting her commitment to giving back.

Visitation for Jeanine Nix was held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Landmark Funeral Home, located at 4200 Hollywood Boulevard. A Mass was offered on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Little Flower Catholic Church, located at 1805 Pierce Street.
